Pilar de la Horadada is located in the southernmost tip of the province of Alicante and borders the region of Murcia. It is a pleasant town, not far from the busy Orihuela Costa. Until 1986 this place belonged to this municipality. Pilar de la Horadada has now grown into a municipality with more than 20,000 inhabitants. Right through Pilar de la Horadada is the three-kilometre-long hiking trail 'Del Pilar al Mar'. The center of Pilar is connected to the beaches of Las Higuercias and Las Villa. An architectural masterpiece above this walking route is Puente del Beso (Bridge of the Kiss). In 2013, the bridge was built and awarded for its design.
Inland
The interior of Pilar de la Horadada has everything you need to enjoy nature. There are hiking trails around the mountains 'Monte Mediterrano' and 'Sierra Escalona', as well as in the Natural Park 'Paraje Natural Municipal de las Lagunas de lo Monte', which is home to various bird species. Also the walking routes in the Rio Seco canal should not be missed.
Beach
The beach can be found in neighboring Torre de la Horadada. The total coastline is more than four kilometers and consists of wide expanses of white sand beaches, small coves, rocky cliffs and coves. The clear blue Mediterranean sea provides a nice contrast to the fine white sand. Because there are no sudden descents, children can bathe peacefully in the water. On the beaches are several Chiringuitos (beach bars), each with its own unique atmosphere.
