Benijofar is located inland on the southern Costa Blanca, close to the tourist towns of Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja. The environment of this region consists of traditional farmland, beautiful natural backgrounds which make it one of the representative towns of the province, a jewel of the Costa Blanca. In fact, the name Benijofar comes from the Arabic "son of the pearl", making Benijofar the real pearl of the Costa Blanca.
Popular with expats, the small town of Benijofar is also close to the expatriate towns of Formentera del Segura, Ciudad Quesada, Algorfa, Rojales, Almoradi, San Fulgencio and Heredera. It is close enough to the coastal towns yet quiet enough to get away from it all.
There are several golf courses nearby as well as water parks in nearby Rojales and Torrevieja. Benijofar has two airports less than an hour away by car, namely Alicante Airport, the busiest hub in the north and Corvera/Murcia Airport in the south.
There are numerous golf courses on the southern Costa Blanca and Benijofar is closest to La Finca Golf Course in Algorfa and La Marquesa Golf and Country Club in Ciudad Quesada.
The nearest and best beaches at Benijofar are about fifteen minutes away by car and these are some of the best beaches on the southern Costa Blanca, at Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja. There are also regular bus services from Benijofar to Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja with easy access to the beaches.
The Plaza Constitucion is the place to watch everyday life pass you by. A lovely square opposite the picturesque church. There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants along the main street that are open all year round.
Benijofar is also good for walking as there are some fantastic trails along the banks of the River Segura as well as a drive to the town of Rojales and from there a walk to the village of Formentera.
Market day takes place near the church on a Tuesday in Benijofar and a larger Friday market on the outskirts of town.
With a mix of Spanish, British, Dutch and several other nationalities, Benijofar is a lovely, friendly place to live.
